Start Steam and locate Path of Exile in your library. Right click it and choose Properties from the menu. Go to Local files tab and click Verify the integrity of game cache button.

I have had the same issue. I've submitted a report with PC specifications as well as a detailed list of all troubleshooting steps I've taken, but I have not yet received a reply. We'll need to give them some time to get this corrected as it seems to be rather difficult for them to replicate the issue and they're currently being swamped with technical support issues due to the game being launched, well, yesterday. I'll update if I receive a fix.

Moustache's fix does not work for me. I have even tried uninstalling the Steam version, deleting all game files, and installing the stand alone version from their website. It continues to happen.

PS: If you have not already tried the official TS steps, try them as they may work for you. Once you've done these, if it still fails, make a post in the thread above. This will help to make them aware of how many people are being affected as well as give the issue visibility.

They are: D3D device error Check your graphics card can handle Pixel Shader 3.0 Check that your PC isn’t defaulting to the Integrated card, which can usually be done by right-clicking on the Path of Exile shortcut and choosing to run the game with the dedicated graphics card. You may have an old productionconfig.ini file in Documents/My Games/Path of Exile. Remove this file and try loading the game again.

You may also need to run the installer a second time, and check that you have the correct installation of Direct X. Originally posted by:I have tried all the steps above, and more.

I have an AMD Radeon X1950 Pro card, with all the drivers and Direct X updated. I still receive the error. Any and all help would be appreciated. Radeons are ATI, and though I've been an Nvidia guy for the last several vid cards I've owned I think ATI has a separate similar software control panel juggling all the driver information. In Nvidia's control panel you can set the vid card to be the default display output for all 3D rendered content. My better half ran into this issue on her comp and it turns out PoE was trying to render through the main CPU rather than the vid card because that option wasn't turned on and the vid card drivers weren't being loaded. After we corrected that issue it's been smooth sailing without the error you're experiencing.

Once you've done that it also wouldn't hurt deleting the productionCFG.ini file as recommended above and letting the game write a fresh one. That will keep any old buggy information from fouling up the next launch. Hi there, I'm sorry to hear this is happening. If you're playing on a laptop you may have an integrated graphics card that Path of Exile is defaulting to. I recommend going into the Catalyst Control center, going into 'Switchable graphics' and setting Path of Exile to High Performance mode. If you're using an Nvidia card then you can do a similar thing in the game's 3D settings in the Nvidia control panel (setting it to use a High Performance device). This should force the game to use your dedicated card instead of your integrated one.
