I have this exact same problem, the in game side bar is glitched to the point of uselessness, making the game unplayable. I also have windows vista on a dual core machine.

Do you mean running the installation file off the cd using the winrar application? How would this help a problem that is aparently vista having issues rendering certain in game graphics? This appears to be quite a common problem with metal fatigue and vista, ive seen only one claim that the game would run without this issue. The only valid solution i have come across is to install microsoft virtual pc and use it to run a pre xp copy of windows, as metal fatigue will aparently not run under xp either. I have not tried this but it should work.
